A simple but addictive little game, you have to deliver 5 gluons to their respective atoms in order to make them stable, but in your little ship (exactly like an Asteroids ship) you have to avoid other obstacles bouncing around the screen. The controls are a bit dodgy and the graphics very sparse but other than that its well worth a go.

Appalling little Breakout clone, the graphics are minimal, and controls are awful (the bat moves way too slow to ever get to the ball some times). It's lucky this one only came with two other games because this would have been a rip off even at £1.99!

A nice little puzzler, but poorly executed, its quite a novel idea, you have to move around the grid eating all the eggs, without running over too many rabbits because these decrease your score. It is quite fun, but lacks decent sound and graphics which should be possible as there does not have to be much animation. Still not bad for two quid.

Probably the only game about building sand castles on the Beeb! It's an average game, probably just about the standard of a magazine type-in. You have to collect sand from the beach and build your sandcastle, its quite a monotonous game, the only danger is a snake and the fact that the tide comes in and washes some of the sand away.

Sideways scrolling shooter reminiscent of Rocket Raid by Acornsoft. This of course isn't as good, its way more primitive, you have to dodge moving targets and shoot others. Its good for a quick blast but doesnt have the appeal for a longer play.

Quite an entertaining little puzzle game, you have to guess the order of the coloured pegs, you get 12 goes, its really a question of deduction. I can't see how this would last too long, but its fun whilst it does.

Another boring Q*Bert clone, ho hum, what an original idea. This is not exactly brilliant either, lacking the smooth graphics of the better 50 or so versions of this game...

A very tedious game, it just involved you betting on one of 5 horses then if you win you get more cash if you don't you lost it. Not very exciting and presented in a very boring way, not worth a second glance.

Dinky little Wild West shooter, basically you are the cowboy and have to shoot those mean mexicans and get all their gold! Its a fun little game which is let down by annoying controls (you never can seem to fire the gun in the right direction), but for what they probably charged for this (£1.99) it would be well worth the asking price.

Rubbish fishing game, fishing is not exactly the most lively of sports anyway, so whoever thought it needed simulating on a BBC must have had something wrong with them. Basically you just select what type of fishing you want to do and then try and catch something. The graphics are ok, just a picture of you fishing by a lake.

This one is a bit like snake, you have to move around the screen eating all the fruit. The graphics are pretty good for an Alternative game, its quite fun for once! The music is very very VERY annoying though, still it is one of their best.

Very simple golf game, you just select which direction you want to hit the ball in, and how far you want it to go. Thats it! The ball will go as far as you want it, I bet all golfers wish that they could do the same! The graphics are average mode 2/5 viewed from above, there isn't really much detail to speak of.

A racing game, top down in the style of Stock-Car Racing by Micropower. Its quite fun, and pretty tough too. The graphics are a bit lame, but work well enough, and for once the animation is quite good. Its a very basic game, but basic doesnt mean boring.

Pretty average Frogger clone, it isnt really too bad actually apart from a spot of dodgy collision detection! The graphics are pretty good, and it plays quite well. For a triple decker game this is one of the best they did, in fact Triple Decker 8 as a whole seems to have been well worth the £1.99.

A fairly decent title, this is basically just a shoot-em-up with a ghostly theme. A weird thing is that you can only fire when facing sideways, you can't shoot up or down, obviously a limitation of the game. Also the game purports to be written by a 'Peter Scott' whether this is the famous one or not is dubious as he doesnt claim to have written it!

Very scruffy cricket game, basically all you do is decide whether to run or not, I suppose for the price it wouldnt be too bad, but the graphics are very ropey and reminiscent of a magazine listing game.

If you don't know what I mean by Sprite flicker, then look no furthur than this game, it is apallingly bad. The sprites are very dull, and extrememly simply made, the whole game is probably the worst football game I have ever played. If you ever bought this game, then you must have either incredibly bad taste or incredibly bad luck!

A fairly decent Space Invaders clone, the graphics are pretty neat but the sound is very annoying. I think it must have been a requirement for BBC Games companies to make at least one Space Invaders clone. Again Alternative shows limitations in the fact that only 12 aliens can be on screen at one time, whereas more sophisticated clones had about twice this number.

Released by Alternative, but also must have been a Micro User type-in game as this is printed at the start of the game. An below average platformer in which you have to collect all the butties on the level. Its very annoying because the way your character jumps is very slow and unresponsive. Only one for platform addicts.

Two-player Karate game, you fight against each other in order to be the first to achieve black-belt status. It is quite limited, with only four moves available, and no blocking moves. So if somebody gets hit then they are down for good! The graphics are quite good for an Alternative game, with suitable Oriental music. One of the better games.

An interesting, if boring twist on the Breakout theme, you have to destroy the walls which are advancing from the bottom of the screen, before they get to the top. It's easy enough although it does get harder, however it is so boring, all you have to do is press space to get the ball to drop onto the bricks.

Another old Electron User type-in game, this really shows. All it is is a version of Lunar Lander with sideways thrust as well as vertical thrust. The graphics are quite good but it is obviously a type-in game as there is not really much to it.

Boring platform game in which you have to jump around and reach the top of the screen. The graphics are very bland mode 2 and the gameplay is terrible, its really hard to jump anywhere because of the way the character jumps.

This, surprise surprise, is actually a half decent game!! It is a pinball game, and the graphics are neatly done, the gameplay isn't half bad - is this really an Alternative game :-)

This is probably the worst of all the Alternative games - mostly because it is so impossible to play! You have to stop missiles from hitting the city by getting the jammer in the way of them, however if you let 3 through then you lose, and they come so quickly that you dont get a chance. Its a good idea I guess, but it is so impossible to get anywhere!

Pac-man Clone, the only trouble is it's way too slow to be any good. The graphics are ok, but the gameplay could be much better if there were power-pills like in the original, as there seems to be no way to hurt the ghosts.

Strange game, seems to be a sort of Pengu hybrid. You have to crush the monsters by sliding blocks over them, its quite a hard game and very frustrating. The graphics though seem to be way above the usual level of Alternative games!

Another incredibly rubbish game, you have to guide a helicopter around a maze, to land on the helipad - hardly original and hardly entertaining. The graphics are incredibly slow, and the authors don't seem to know how to turn the cursor off...oh dear.

Simple game in which you have to save parachutes from drowning by catching them in your raft. The graphics look ok, but its very dull gameplay that poses the problem here. Not bad for a triple decker game though.

Not really a game, all this program does is test how long after seeing something you can press the space bar, its not very exciting.

Repton-like game with a twist, you can rotate the screen around in order to gain access to the crystals. This game was a lot more popular on the Sinclair range of computers, spawning many sequels. This conversion isn't too bad, the graphics are very average though, really showing that this is more of a conversion as it doesnt use the full BBC Micro feature set.

Below par Breakout clone, this is quite bad, the graphics are not exactly fluid, the default colours (thankfully they can be changed) are horrid and the ball moves around like its covered in treacle. Considering this was a late 80's effort rather than early 80's this is a very bad game.

Cross between Rocket Raid and Planetoid, this is another one of the Micro User type-in games. Not a very good one because all the opponents just stand still. How they got away with selling titles that were used in magazines already is anyones guess!

Basically you play Snap against another person (2 player only) and the one who gets the most snaps gets his dragon to kill the other player. Its a bit boring considering that you can play the same games with just cards and it is probably more fun.

A rather poor football management game, this isn't a patch on the classic Football Manager by Addictive. Its in an ugly mode and the crowd noise when you score a goal is terrible. It has a very home made feel about it, unsurprising as Alternative software claimed to be able to get your home programs into the shops in 3 weeks!

Not a bad game this one, its reminiscent of Star Wars, as if you were flying in an X-Wing and shooting TIE Fighters, the graphics arent too bad and the effect of moving along a planetscape is fairly good. Considering this was a budget game, it is very good.

Mildly amusing Pinball game, the graphics are ok, the table is slighlty sparse and boring, but it plays ok. You get the feeling that this was knocked up in a couple of hous though as this could have probably been a lot better than it actually is.
