This was the software publishing arm of British Telecom, and it later changed its name to Rainbird, and also for a while went under the name of Telecom Soft. Rainbird was still producing games for other formats in the early 1990's, but I think they were sold off as British Telecom changed to BT in the mid 90's. They did some good, and some not so good games.

Orlando's last published game, this is a very ambicious game as it manages to recreate a pool table in true 3D. The graphics are a little rough around the edges, but the whole idea of 3D is modelled excellently. The game plays well and is easily the best game of its type on the Beeb.
Acid Drops

A highly original shoot-em-up, for once! This is a great idea, you have to shoot the aliens who are flying around the screen, two at a time, but watch out for the acid tank which is right above your ship. If you shoot a hole in the acid tank, the acid drips down, and contact with it is fatal. This makes accuracy important, which is a change from most shoot-em-ups. The graphics are bland, but functional, this is definitly a game worth playing, whether or not you like shoot-em-ups.

An entertaining little shoot em up, set in the first world war. You are in control of a cannon, and have to defend the village from the planes which are bombing it. You have to shoot them down, a direct hit will blow them up, but if you just partially hit it, then the pilot will throw out a messenger pigeon, which you have to destroy. It is a good game, and adds some good things to the genre, the graphics are excellently done, nice and colourful, and the movement is great.

Great conversion of the arcade game smash hit - this is a late game by Firebird, 1989 to be exact. The object is to get rid of the monsters on the level by capturing them in bubbles which you blow. It's really slickly done, the graphics are great and its good fun to play, well worth a go, a hidden gem!

A technically excellent game, this is drawn in complete 3d, you are in control of a Tank like vehicle, and have to move around the city. It is like Elite, but the window used is much smaller, but this adds fluidity to the movement of the tank. You have to search out and destroy things, which you are given briefing on at the start of the level. This is a highly playable game.
Duck!

A very entertaining, and for a nice change, funny game! You are a farmer who loves ducks for dinner, and you have to shoot down as many as you can. Basically it is a duck-em-up, but it has some great moments, such as when the ducks fall out of the sky, and sometimes they bomb you with eggs! It is a nice change from the average space invaders!

A very strange game, I'm not even sure what you have to do in it! From what I can tell, you go around in the ship and try to collect the blue circles whilst evading the enemies. The graphics are very colourful and lively, but it is just a mystery to me, can anyone help?
Fat Man Sam

A bog standard platform game, you are fat sam and have to get out of each screen, by moving around and collecting all the pieces. It is entertaining enough, if annoying (and has bad collision detection) The graphics are low-resoltion, but nicely done but sound is very minimalistic.
Gold Digger

Firebird's answer to Micropower's Mr Ee!! only about 100 times worse! The controls are awful, the sprites are laughable, and it is probably the cheapest rip off of the game style ever. Basically you have to dig around in a underground cavern taking lumps of gold whilst being chased by monsters, you could play this, but there are loads of other games that do it better.

A nice idea for a platform game, set inside a computer, you have to move around and collect all the funny shaped squiggles. When you do you move out of the level. This nasties are well thought up, being things such as micro chips. The graphics are good and so is the sound.
Harvey Head Banger

One of the only two player only games on the Beeb, one player is in control of Harvey and the other is his friend Hamish. You have to bounce into each other, and the eventual aim is to get rid of the other player by reducing his energy. It is very annoying and quite boring, not really how a two player game should be!

This is a very strange game, you have to make plants grow, by watering them, and avoid the nasties that fly around the level, and when you have got all the plants grown, you complete the level. It is very strange, but worth playing as the graphcis are good and it at least has some original gameplay!

Interesting 1984 effort, this is quite a busy game, there's lots going on, you have to shoot the bad guys and de-ice the level. The graphics are pretty average, quite basic really, but they work! Its nothing amazing, just a basic platform sort of game with various baddies.

Arrhhhh! I hate this game, and I mean hate it, with a passion! It is a very weird game, and I won't even begin to try and explain it because I can't. All I'll say is that it is a very slow, very boring game, written in 3d, where the object is to climb higher than your opponent, the sentinel, whilst taking care not to be seen by any of his drones. I hate this game because it is so slow, and annoying, and I'd never reccommend it to anyone!

Another graphical adventure, but this time set from an overhead point of view. You have to find your way out of the space station, by collecting keys and objects and shooting the bad guys. The gameplay is good fun, but sometimes it is hard to know what to do with the object you have. The graphics are nice and colourful, sound is not very good, but overall a very nice game which probably did nothing to damage Firebird's reputation as a quality software house.

Collection of 6 little mini-games derived from the old bat and ball type games such as Pong. There's Tennis, Football, Squash, Solo Squash, Four Bat Blip and Asterbliperoids (tennis with asteroids moving across the screen which the ball can bounce off of). Its very simplistic and good fun if you remember the first video games.
