Robico

They mainly did text adventures, in fact they did extremely good text adventures, the technology they used to fit the text in was almost as good as that developed by Level 9. They used compressors on the text which were good at fitting in the words, and the games play excellently. Went from about 1984 to 1990 as I recall.

One of the only games I know of that Robico made which wasn't a text adventure. This is not too different however, because you play Banjax, a bear, and have to go around picking up items and using them in the right places - yes, this is a graphical adventure. It is not very good however, and you can easily see how Robico must have been diswaded from producing any similar games after this effort.

Another one of their non-adventure games, and looking at this I understand why they mostly did text adventures! It isn't that it's a bad game, but it is just so original, ok the graphics are not too bad, but the gameplay is just so old hat it is unbelievable. Only play this if you're a die hard Robico fan!

Entertaining adventure game, featuring all the hallmarks of a great game, its very detailed, Robico really did stretch every byte of free memory out of the Beeb in order to get the detail and number of locations into their games. This one is set in pirate times, you are Captain and there is a mutiny at hand.

Escape From Enthar 7

This game is set on board a strange planet, Enthar 7, and using all your wit and cunning you have to get off of it. No surprises there then. This is a better than average text adventure, with a vague hint of the game Planetfall by Infocom, which was released on the PC. It is however spoiled somewhat by the constant disk reads that need to be performed.

Probably their first adventure game, this features all the detail of their later adventures, but with only a two-word parser. This is quite annoying as the game doesnt seem to understand a lot of common verbs. Its not really that good a story, you have to escape from jail after being thrown in there by the King.

Realm Of Chaos - Village Of Lost Souls

A recoding of an old game called Village Of Lost Souls by a company called Magus, the original was text only and not as detailed. This is different to the others in that it is a much later game (1987) and is much slower for some reason, and without pictures. One bad thing is that it constantly has to access the disk drive to get data from it, which is annoying as it slows the game down somewhat. It is a very interesting plot line, all about ghosts and abandoned villages - spooky, and definitly worth playing!

Saga OF A Spy 2: Project Thesius

The second game in the series, this time you have to uncover information about a secret new weapons device that is being developed. Again the text is detailed and the game itself is entertaining, and this time it is a bit harder, if you found the first part easy that is!

Saga Of A Spy 1: Rick Hanson

The first of the Saga Of A Spy trilogy, this sees Hanson wake up in a train station, you don't know what your mission is, but you know it is important because you have been given the task! It is a good game, text only this time, but my god there is a lot of description, and the parser is actually quite advanced. Definitly worth a play.

Saga Of A Spy 3: Myorem

The final part of the trilogy, in this game you wake up after just being tied up, and you can't do or say anything. It is a very mysterious game, and doesn't even come with any instructions on what you have to do, but it is quite obvious you have to escape from your captors. The text is up to its normal standard, which was high throughout the trilogy, and this is a fitting final installment of a great trilogy.

The Hunt: Search For Shauna

A great game, set aboard a space ship, this is a text adventure with style! The graphics are really good, the text descriptions are excellent, and they really move quickly, unlike some of the other text adventures. This is all very nicely put together, and even though the game itself is a bit on the easy side, it is worth a play. Almost as good as the Level 9 text adventures.
