Ultimate Play The Game

Another company still going strong, they changed their name to Rare when they moved out of the 8-bit market, but the games retained the high production quality. They are masters of graphics, and also gameplay, their most recent hits have been Donkey Kong Land and Donkey Kong Land II on the Nintendo. They really do deserve to be amongst the top British Designers. Nearly all their games are played from the isometric 3-d point of view, with beautifully created graphics, it is amazing how much they managed to fit in to 32k.

A nice little game, where you play an Alien wandering around a strange world, I'm not too sure (I've never seen any instructions) but I think you have to get off the planet.

This was a kind of "screen-based, run around frantically as monsters appear on the screen, collecting keys and objects and things to get your health up" type game, the aim of which I think was to get three objects from the maze of screens and return them to the start screen (though I'm not sure). It was the precursor to Sabre Wulf.

A great game, you are a space man, and using your lunar jet pack, you have to fight against meteors, comets, and other things, whilst progressing through the levels. For some reason, this game is in Mode 2, whereas all their other games are in a higher res mode. It has great sound though.

In this game you play the part of a night. You have to get out of the catacombs, which is extremely difficult, as there are loads of puzzles. This game has excellent graphics in hi-res. It is pretty similar in structure to Alien 8.

Almost Identical to Jet Pac, this has the same plot, and style, but is in the more normal High-res mode.

A weird game, I bought the game recently, but the instructions are naff, and don't tell you what the mission is, or how to complete it!

This is probably their best known 8-bit game, and has you as a hunter working your way through the jungle, past bears and things that you find in the jungle. This is one of their best games, even though it is played in a low-res mode, it really has some brain bursting puzzles!
