Blue Ribbon

They were the budget range of CDS software, and as such they released most of the old CDS back catalogue, then got rights to sell some of the older Superior and MRM software games, some games of course went straight to the budget. They did three budget ranges for the BBC Micro, which were made up of MRM, CDS, and Superior Software titles, MRM they had bought out some years previously, as well as CDS.

Astro Plumber

A well designed game, you are a spaceman who is also a plumber, and has to fix leaks in the pipework with the trusty laser, but there are baddies all around the pipework, and contact with them is fatal. You have to fix all the leaks whilst making sure not to run out of oxygen. It is very hard, but the graphics are very good and it is at least a bit original.

Balloon Buster

This is an entertaining and very enhoyable puzzle type game. You control a clown, and have to burst balloons in a certain order with your juggling ball, which you control the height of by holding down a key for varying lengthes of time. The balloons are arranged so that you have to burst them in a certain order, so that you can complete the pattern. It is played against the clock, and becomes very hard, but the graphics are good, and the game is good fun.

Bar Billiards

The classic old English pub game, done perfectly. The rules are complicated, but basically you have to get either the red or white ball in one of the holes without knocking any of the pegs over. The graphics are very good, and very steady, the balls even move well and the way in which they move is also very realistic!

Poor platform game in which you are inexplicably dressed in a space suit. Its not very good, the game is pretty annoying too, no wonder this was budget.

Diamond Mine 2

Released: Unknown

Author: Unknown

Download

A mediocre game, which bears resemblence to 3d Dotty, except this time it is set in a diamond mine, you have to guide the scooper around the mind, collecting all the diamond, whilst the scooper or its wire must not touch each other, or any of the aliens, if they do it will retract and you lose a life. Retracting the scooper yourself will mean you lose a life. It is an ok game, but impossibly hard.

Dominoes

Released: Unknown

Author: Unknown

Download

The old bar game, this time on the beeb. It isn't a very good version of the game, and even so, why would you want to play dominoes on the computer? The worst thing about the game is that the writing is extremely hard to read, as the colours blend into the background of the screen. Not a good game, and definitly not reccommended!

Golf

Released: Unknown

Pretty basic golf game, this is certainly nothing like the king of Beeb golf, Holed Out the graphics are basic low-res, and the control mechanism is a little bit basic. It's not terrible though, especially for a budget game it could be a lot worse.

Hi Q Quiz

The WORST game of all time that I have ever played, this is definitly the biggest pile of ***t ever. It looks pretty good at first, a nicely presented, if easy, quiz game, but then you soon realize how bad it is. It asks you questions, and you have to answer yes if they are right, or no if they are wrong, the trouble is - all the questions it asks you are true, so all you have to do is press yes to get the question right! How pointless.

Joey

Released: Unknown

Author: Unknown

Download

A platform game, you are Joey, a kangaroo, and have to collect all the boomerangs on the level. There are monsters running all over the level to try and stop you, and to make it even harder, an Aboriganee pops up from time to time and fires arrows or boomerangs at the poor marsupial! The graphics are good but spartan, and the game play is ok. It is pretty average, but still worth a play.

Mango

Released: Unknown

Another clone of Pengo, this is probably one of the worst. The graphics are very dull, and not at all interesting, which is the only thing you can do diferently if you're cloning. This would probably be the one to buy if you can't afford a decent version of it!

Ravage

Released: Unknown

Author: Unknown

Download

A nice 3d space shoot-em-up, this has an Elite style view, but the graphics are not wireframe, instead they are sprites, which are more suited to shoot-em-ups as they can move quicker. It is probably one of the best games produced by Blue Ribbon, but it is not exactly original, and there is not much in depth play to be had.

Return Of R2

Released: Unknown

A terrible attempt at an isometric 3D game like Ultimate Play the Game Used to do, for starters they used a low-res mode which makes everything look weird and horrible, and then they made the sound effects annoying, then they forgot to put in any gameplay - doh! Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Secret Sam Mission 1

Released: Unknown

Author: Unknown

A rather poor adventure game, all you have to do is move around and pick up objects, there is absolutely no descriptions whatsoever, and you can die without warning at any time. Definitly not worth playing from the archive - let alone actually having the misfortune to buy it!

Secret Sam Mission 2

Exactly the same as Sam Mission 1 but with different locations and objects - don't play it.

Spooksville

I don't believe it, this is a complete rip of of the classic Citadel the monsters look exactly the same, the main character is the same, but the rest of the graphics are much worse. This is set in a Mansion rather than a city, but the basic things are exactly the same. This is actually a bad copy of Citadel because the outside graphics are very poor. Definitly do not play this game...even if you love Citadel, it doesn't do it justice.

Trapper

Released: Unknown

A good attempt at an original game, this has you trying to trap the monster, by surrounding him with blocks in the eight basic compass directions. The graphics are fairly limited, not much animation at all. The most annoying thing is the difficulty level, even on level 1 it is extremely hard to block the monster in without him killing you or escaping!

Turf Form

Not really a game, this actually predicts horses form for betting reasons. Therefore I announce it the most boring of the software that Blue Ribbon produced ;)

Video Card Arcade

A gambling game, this one offers you a choice of three games to play - 21, Poker Royal or High Low. The games are fairly straightforward, apart from Poker as I don't know the rules to that. The others are simple, in 21 you have to get cards whose face value add up to 21 then you win different amounts depending on what combinations you have, in high low, you have to say whether the next card off the top of the pack will be higher or lower than the last, five correct cards wins, again the combination of cards shows how much you win. It is a simple package, with some nice graphics, and the games are fun to play.
